Design and Development of an English as a Global Language MOOC to Increase Global Englishes Awareness: Evaluation in a Thai University

The Global Englishes Language Teaching (GELT) framework has been proposed as a practical guidance for researchers and practitioners to reconsider revise their current teaching practices recognize global status of English in multilingual communities (Galloway & Rose, 2018). However, the GELT still requires extensive evidence from stakeholders field language teaching. This study aims design evaluate an ‘English language’ massive open online course or EGL-MOOC increase awareness among first-year students enroled general Thai university. To develop EGL-MOOC, contents instructional materials (i.e., Infographics, motion graphics, video clips, reading passages, discussion tasks, module tests) were produced based on framework. identify students’ awareness, set pre-and post-teaching questionnaires student reflections employed, together with MOOC evaluation questionnaire determining quality EGL-MOOC. findings demonstrate suggestions implementation university raise knowledge after course. also highlights innovative development promote sociolinguistic realities English, well respectful attitudes towards diversity.
